What makes your gowns unique?
Each gown is created individually, with the design, fit, and construction developed specifically for the bride wearing it. Through a series of fittings and the use of structured techniques such as corsetry, the gown is refined over time to achieve a precise and considered finish. The ready-to-wear range offers the same couture finish in standard sizing.
Phoebe Crosby has become known for the supportive, yet comfortable corsetry found within the designs.
What can I expect during my appointment?
Consultations take place in my Cambridgeshire home studio or via an initial phone consultation.
Appointments are private and considered. We will discuss your vision, explore silhouettes and fabrication, and determine whether made-to-measure or bespoke is the right approach for you. The studio has been designed as a calm, focused environment where each gown is developed with intention and precision.
What is the difference between ready-to-wear, made-to-measure and bespoke?
Ready-to-wear
Ready-to-wear gowns are my existing designs, made in standard UK sizing. Each gown is still hand-crafted by me using the same couture corsetry techniques as my bespoke work - the only difference is that it’s made to a standard size rather than your exact measurements. This is a beautiful option if you’ve fallen in love with one of my designs and fit well within standard sizing.
Made-to-measure
Made-to-measure takes one of my existing designs and crafts it to your exact measurements. The design itself stays the same (small customisations available), but the gown is cut and constructed specifically for your body, ensuring a truly flattering fit. After you place your order, I’ll be in touch personally to arrange your measurements/ studio appointments.
Bespoke
Bespoke is a completely one-to-one design experience. Together we create a gown that’s entirely yours, from the very first sketch. The journey includes design consultations, fabric sampling, toile fittings, and couture corsetry, finishing with a hand-crafted gown made exclusively for you. Bespoke commissions are limited each year to protect the quality and care that goes into every piece.
Which is right for me?
If you love a design as it is and fit standard sizing, ready-to-wear is a wonderful choice. If you love a design but want it made for your body, choose made-to-measure. And if you’re dreaming of something entirely unique, bespoke is for you. If you’re unsure, get in touch - I’m always happy to help you decide.
How far in advance should I schedule my appointment?
I recommend beginning the process 8–12 months before your wedding date. This allows time for design development, pattern drafting, toile fittings and refinement. Availability is limited each month to ensure I can provide the best service to each Bride, so early reservation for peak months is recommended. Your first fitting is usually around 5-6 months before the wedding, with fittings in between and 6 and 4 weeks before the wedding date.
In certain circumstances, I can accommodate shorter timelines of 2–4 months depending on availability.
What should I bring to my consultation?
You are welcome to bring inspiration imagery or meaningful pieces you may wish to incorporate.
Most importantly, come open to exploring silhouette, proportion and structure- the foundation of every couture gown.
Who should I bring to my consultation?
I recommend bringing one or two trusted individuals whose perspective you value.
Will your sample gowns fit me?
As a couture designer, I produce a limited number of sample pieces for collections and editorials. These are not manufactured in multiple sizes, and are often created bespoke to the models measurements. These gowns are produced to show Brides the possibilities of creating your own custom look.
Many designs feature adjustable corsetry to allow flexibility when trying on. However, the true fit of your gown is achieved through your custom toile and pattern-drafted piece, created exclusively to your measurements.
What is the difference between made-to-measure and bespoke?
Made-to-measure gowns are developed from an existing Phoebe Crosby design. The silhouette is established, but your gown is still individually pattern-drafted to your measurements and refined through a structured toile fitting, with the flexibility to alter small details such as lace choice.
Bespoke is a fully collaborative design experience. Your gown is conceived entirely from scratch, beginning with consultation and original sketches, followed by fabric curation and toile development. The design exists solely for you.
Both services are handcrafted in my home studio using the same couture construction techniques and level of precision.
Can I work with you if I'm not UK based?
Yes. I work with brides internationally.
Your gown will still begin with a new pattern drafted exclusively to your measurements. A structured toile is created and fitted virtually using a mannequin calibrated precisely to your proportions, allowing refinements to be made before the final gown is completed.
The level of craftsmanship remains the same, regardless of location.
What is the process for creating a custom gown?
Every gown begins with precision pattern drafting based on your individual measurements.
For made-to-measure designs, an existing Phoebe Crosby silhouette is re-drafted specifically for you. For bespoke commissions, the design is developed from scratch through consultation, sketching and fabric sourcing.
Each piece includes a fully structured toile- a constructed mock-up that reflects the internal architecture of the final gown. This stage allows the fit, balance and silhouette to be refined before your chosen fabrics are cut.
Multiple fittings ensure the gown evolves with accuracy and intention.
Do you offer custom accessories?
I offer a curated selection of veils, gloves, scarves and custom pieces designed to complement your gown. Each accessory is developed with the same attention to proportion and refinement as the dresses themselves.
